The Importance of Isolating Solar Panels

Mon, 19 Aug 2019

With winter comes the usual electrical issues people encounter when water gets into places it shouldnt. One thing we see a fair bit of is ground faults on Solar Power systems. There can be a few reasons for that but it usually comes back to water ingress of some kind.

In most circumstances you do not need to clean your Solar Panels, however if you live around trees its a good idea to check under the panels for build up of leaves and twigs.

A build up of debris under the panels may create isolation faults in the wetter months and cause your system to shut down.

HOWEVER as our apprentice learnt this week its important to isolate the solar panels before grabbing cables because leaking DC voltage can really hurt!

Its best to leave it to a solar professional, we will remove the panels and clean out the debris and roof surface. Correctly reinstall the panels and secure the cables so they don’t trap the leaves and twigs πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘ŒπŸ»
